PUBLIKATIONEN

Meine gerade erschienene Publikation „Skulptur und fotografische Imagination“ setzt sich mit bildhauerischen und fotografischen Aspekten meines künstlerischen Werkes und dessen Deutung auseinander.

Unter dem Begriff der Fotoskulptur strebe ich eine Verbindung von Skulptur und Fotografie an. Es geht dabei weniger um die Reproduktion des Skulpturalen als um die Neuerfindung der Skulpturen im Wege der fotografischen Darstellung. Erst in zweiter Linie soll die Fotografie Analysemedium und folglich Instrument der Kommentierung sein.

Durch Nahaufnahmen und Vergrößerung von Partien, durch Fragmentierung und Verzerrung von Maßstab und Optik, durch die polyfokale Betrachtung und die farbliche Verfremdung, durch das Ausnutzen von Reflexionen und Spiegelungen im natürlichen Licht wird eine Imagination evoziert, die das skulpturale Werk neu erschafft bzw. den Anstoß zu einem neuen Kosmos des Skulpturalen gibt. Auf diese Weise sollen über die bildhauerische Diktion hinaus Bedeutungen geschaffen, symbolische Zusammenhänge sowie der Skulptur innewohnende Aspekte entdeckt werden. Zudem habe ich einzelne Werke einer digitalen Bearbeitung unterzogen, mit der ein Verfremdungseffekt einhergeht.

Der künstlerische Ansatz ist eingebettet in Reflexionen über die bildhauerischen Impulse und die inhaltliche Verortung der Werke. Es besteht mithin die Möglichkeit, sowohl meine Arbeit als Bildhauer als auch als künstlerischer Fotograf nachhaltig kennenzulernen.

Under the concept of photo sculpture, I endeavour to combine sculpture and photography. It is less about the reproduction of the sculptural and more about the reinvention of sculpture by means of photographic representation. Only secondarily is photography intended to be a medium of analysis and consequently an instrument of commentary.

Through close-ups and enlargements of parts, through fragmentation and distortion of scale and optics, through polyfocal observation and colour alienation, through the exploitation of reflections and mirroring in natural light, an imagination is evoked that recreates the sculptural work or provides the impetus for a new cosmos of the sculptural. In this way, meanings are created beyond the sculptural diction, symbolic connections and aspects inherent to the sculpture are discovered. I have also subjected individual works to digital processing, which is accompanied by an alienation effect.

The artistic approach is embedded in reflections on the sculptural impulses and the contextual localisation of the works. It is therefore possible to get to know both my work as a sculptor and as an artistic photographer.
